Mining Engineer for a short-term assignment working in the Mid-West region of Western Australia

Your new role

As the Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing planning functions and systems for projects to optimise the mine development strategy. The Mining Engineer role is crucial in analysing and evaluating the mine development strategy, preparing mine schedules and budgets, optimising resources, and ensuring efficient production analysis and ore reconciliation. Working alongside the Geologists, Mine Surveyors, Metallurgists, and mining contractors, the Mine Planning Engineer will also lead the ongoing optimisation of pit resources, designs and plans, mine equipment, capital expenditure, waste, and water management. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;

  • Refine and update the short-term and long-term mine plans as required
  • Collaborate with the geology team to ensure accurate grade control data is utilised in planning tasks
  • Apply innovation and practical experience to enhance the mine planning function
  • Assist the Mine Surveyor in preparing and maintaining plans to meet safety, legislative, and operational requirements
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards in drill and blast plans and reconcile blast patterns as necessary
  • Provide input for long-term planning, including costs, equipment performance, and excavation strategies
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations to track the flow of ore through the mining and processing stages
  • Support the planning and supervision staff of the Mining Contractor as needed to meet operational requirements

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mine Engineering
  • Post-graduate experience is essential
  • Exposure to contractor mining operations in selective mining operations
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of short-term/medium-term planning, budgeting, and operational support
  • High level of competence in mine planning, scheduling, and reporting software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Current WA "C" Class Driver's Licence
  • Ability to pass a strict pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening
  • Ability to provide references covering the past 12 months of employment
